Erie Runners Club Personal Endurance Classic

October 19, 2024 Erie, PA 16510 US

Do I have to start at 6:30?

No.  You may start and stop at any time.  You may run/walk for the full 12 hours, or you may come out for 15 minutes after lunch.

How does the timing work?

You cross the timing mat for the first time to start the "clock".  Every time you cross the mat after that counts as one lap. Yes, you do have to wear your bib for the entire event.

Can I leave for lunch?

You may come and go as you please.  If you decide to go out to lunch, cross the mat to finish a lap, then go get lunch. (If you decide you're done, your lap will be counted that way).  When you come back, bypass the mat and get back on course.  You skip the mat so you DON'T get an extra lap counted.  If you make a mistake, stop by to see the timer who will wipe out one crossing.  Yes, that means your lunch lap is a lot slower than every other lap, but that's what you get when you go eat chili dogs.

Can I set up a table?

Absolutely.  The northern leg of the Clark Road parking lot is nearly 300' long and parallels the end of all three of the event loops.  Back your car or truck up to the guardrail (It used to be chain, but changes), set your table or tent up, and enjoy.  There are generally plenty of places to do this.  And if there are no spots left to park right there, there is plenty of space nearby to set up and be left alone.

What are the courses like?

Short course - relatively flat, paved course.  Just enough Up & Down to keep your legs happy.  33' of elevation.

Long course in woods - a few ups and downs (gentle) and one tubed stream crossing that is steeper (but less than 20' of elevation change at this location). Grass - less than 0.2 miles.  Woodland trail (can be muddy - about 1 mile.  Pavement - about 0.4 mile.  Total of 40' of elevation.

Road Course - all paved (or gravel).  At just short of a mile there is 200' of elevation gain in 1/2 mile.  A little later you'll drop 200' in about a mile. If you like hills, this is a good course.  293' of elevation.

Road Course runners will all be carrying their phones.  Their friends and family will be able to track them throughout the event. We'll be able to see them from the finish as well - so if there is a question, we can check.

Anyone else is welcome to carry their phone during the event so they can be seen as well.  In addition, EVERYONE will be tracked at the lap position, so friends and family can see how you're doing.
